Abstract:

The article reflects some results of the research on the history of river shipping on the Upper Irtysh (second half of XIX-XX centuries). By the end of the XIX century the name of the Irtysh River, upwards from the city of Semipalatinsk, has been fixed in the official documents of the Tomsk District of Railways. In 1933 the Upper Irtysh River Shipping Administration (UIRSA) with the boundaries from the Black Irtysh up to Pavlodar was created. Studies were conducted on the basis of public and private archive materials, museum funds, as well as personal meetings with employees of enterprises working in the UIRSA companies.
